When Life Throws You A Curve Ball
You wake up Sunday morning and it is a beautiful day. The sun is shining, you’re eating your keto breakfast, your children are playing and all is well until… BAM! The curve ball of life hits you. The curve balls all look the same. Some come hard and fast. Some come slow and steady, but they all feel the same way when they hit you; they sting. My curve ball experience happened in the past and brought me to where I am now in my life.
After the Curve Ball Hits
It is what you do AFTER the curve ball hits you that matters. Let me share a curve ball with you and then relate it to life and Keto. I lived on a small farm in the Mid-West and was working as a nursing instructor when I found out about a nurse administrator position at a community college in a tiny town on the West coast.
The idea of obtaining this position was exciting for me because I was about to complete my Ph.D. in Education and wanted a position where I could put my nursing education and administrative skills to use. So, I called the college to find out more about the position. I went through an initial interview over the phone and was later flown to the West coast with my husband to interview for the nurse administrator position in person.
The College Greeting
Everything was fine and dandy, so I thought, until the first day on the job. I arrived to work and was greeted by… you got it… no one. I found out I was sharing an office with the program director and there was little preparation other than a few books moved from a desk. That was the first curve ball bruise. The next curve ball came with the attempt of rescinding my title as a Nurse Administrator, even though it was clearly stated, “Nurse Administrator/Faculty for Nursing Programs,” in my offer letter. There were many curve balls thrown in that situation, but what I forgot to do was move out of the way!
Things Happen For a Reason
I took hit after hit, blow after blow, bruise after bruise from those curve balls during that traumatic event instead of swerving and moving out of the way so I would not get hit. In the end, I resigned from the position because I lost all trust and faith in the organization and was losing faith in my own abilities. I am a person who believes everything happens for a reason. I could write a book here about that event (and I still may write a book about this event), but I will not that to you now.
Ketogenic Coach- Helping Others Live Ketogenically
What I will share with you is, four years later, I am in a position of authority, and I am not bound to anyone but God. I was a research assistant for a well-known university, I designed and developed a community-based palliative care program in this same tiny town I traveled to, and now, I have a ketogenic coaching business that allows me to provide support, direction, and guidance to individuals who desire to make ketogenic living a lifestyle! I get to use my nursing, administrative, and transformational leadership skills to their full potential as I help others reach their desired goals and dreams as they learn to live Ketogenically (Keto-Healthy).
Keto Curve Balls
How do I relate curve balls to keto? Do tell! Lol. Life is going great… you are eating your 20 carbs or less per day and you are losing weight. Then bam,… A Twinkie shows up on your desk… and you eat it. Curve ball. No, it’s not a Twinkie? Maybe it’s a pie, donuts, a fresh fruit bowl or something that is else sweet or savory and loaded with carbs that you eat. Oh, just one bite, just one slice. It won’t hurt. Bam! Another curve ball!
Do you Swerve to Avoid the Curve?
The curve balls bruised me and woke me up to swerve and fight back. So, let me ask you, are you getting hit with curve balls? Are you getting hit and accepting the blows with arms open wide or are you swerving and strengthening yourself so you won’t get bruised again? I have learned from (some) of my mistakes. I choose the later. How about you? Leave a comment below.
